Other similar snacks that you can go for include Rice Krispies Treats, Corn Nuts, Reduced fat Cheeze-its which cut out the fat but retain the cheesy taste and different types of flavored corn nuts that are sure to stimulate the taste buds of every child attending the fundraiser.

When you are finalizing the snack list for your fundraiser, do keep in mind the calorific values of all the snacks you plan to include. Fat and sugar content should be quite low, ideally below 35%. Additionally, you should only choose snacks that have very little saturated fats (as little as possible). The number of calories should also be within an acceptable limit, 250 calories or less.

When you organize a healthy fundraiser, organize a collection of snacks into packets and keep the option of different packets for different prices. You may even find pre arranged packets of snacks available in the market. A mixture of different healthy and tasty snacks will surely tickle the taste buds of the youngsters and make your fundraising a success. Plan a Successful Church Fundraiser

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

A church fundraiser is a great way to raise funds, especially for nonprofit purposes. This may mean getting funds for youth group activities or for any special cause that may be necessary. However, planning a successful fundraiser needs a lot of thought and effort. This is because when you wish to plan a fundraiser, you must try so that it is a huge success. It takes a lot of hands on deck and quite a bit of effort. If the results do not match up to that then its effort wasted.

The first step in planning a successful church fundraiser is to get the young people involved. Organizing needs as many hands on deck as possible. Beware though, youth needs guidance and you will have to effectively direct the bunch of young people to successfully work towards organizing your church fundraiser.

Publicity for your church fundraiser is very important if you want to make it a roaring success. Setting up sign boards, spreading news by the word of mouth are effective ways to ensure that your fundraiser will be attended by the maximum number possible. Getting a team together to do these jobs is an absolute necessity.

As we all know, with the advent of a generation riddled with juvenile diseases, food items sold at a fundraiser has become a matter of major concern. Earlier, chocolate fundraisers used to be common. Other food items that were popular at fundraisers included fried food such as burgers, fries and the like. While children really enjoy gorging on these snacks, the statistical figures pointing at juvenile diabetes and obesity really make these snacks a hazardous option. An obese juvenile will almost certainly develop significant health complications later in life. Once a young child has been diagnosed with diabetes, not only is it a permanent disease, but the child is ever more susceptible to kidney problems, vision problems and a lot of other significant health issues.

Keeping this problem in mind, quite a number of states in the US have imposed a ban on chocolate fundraisers in schools. Notable mentions include the California SB-12 and similar laws in other states. While there is yet to be a federal law in place for banning such fundraisers, it makes little sense to host one, from both the healthy and the legal point of view.

Healthy fundraising options are, therefore, something which you need to look out for. A healthy fundraiser only includes food items which have a low calorific value, zero or negligible saturated fats and low sodium content. Such food items are good for the children at the fundraiser and parents can stop worrying and let them enjoy their time. However, health apart, in order to attract the young people, snacks need to be tasty and appealingly packaged as well. Here, you need some sort of a healthy fundraising solution which can provide you perfect food items for your church fundraiser.

Fundraising Under California SB-12

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Obesity is on the rise in the United States of America and the most alarming thing is that kids are the ones who are falling prey to it. This is in fact the result of an unhealthy lifestyle and improper food habits. Therefore there has been an organized attempt by parents, teachers and the state governments to look into this matter. While parents and teachers are looking after the day to day dietary requirements of a child, the government on its part is looking into the health laws. Chocolate fundraising has been prohibited in several parts of the country. The state of California has been one of the pioneers in the imposition of one such statute and it is known as California SB-12. School fundraising in California has to comply with the standards set by California SB-12.

Obesity is caused as a result of an imbalance in calorie intake and calorie expenditure. The change in the food habits is also responsible for children becoming obese and some even suffering from Type 2 Diabetes. Kids these days are more inclined towards playing computer games rather than engaging themselves in physical activities. Moreover, kids prefer fried food and you cannot get them to eat boiled vegetables and fruits as healthy alternatives. Therefore while deciding on the plan of action in a fundraiser; members of the PTA can look towards healthy snacks as an option.

According to California SB-12 an individual snack should have less than 35% sugar by weight, less than 35% of its calories from saturated fats, and less than 10% of the calorie count from saturated fats. An Elementary school fundraiser snack should be no more than 175 calories while those served at middle schools and high schools should have no more than 250 calories. If a school fundraiser has an entrée on its platter, then it should not be more than 400 calories and should contain 4 grams of fat every 100 calories. The snacks served at the fundraiser need to comply with the standards of the federal meal program as well. The California SB 12 was enforced since July 2007 and since then it has become mandatory for the California schools to organize a healthy fundraiser.

Schools can opt for healthy fundraising solutions and therefore place a stricter control on what the children are eating. Parents can relax as they no longer have to worry about their child eating all the fried stuff. In this way fundraising can be fun even under California SB-12.

The purpose of a fundraiser is to generate money and that can best be done when you have such delectable and healthy snacks up for sale at such an event. Snacks sold at a nominal amount can encourage more and more kids to opt participate in the event. Kids always look forward to receive something in return of whatever they give and they would surely be delighted to choose their favorite snacks from a wide spread. It is best to organize a direct seller when it comes organize a healthy fundraiser.
